Tier 4
Campaign
The long fight, run on purpose.
10 modules
From Coalitions to Campaigns~8 min
A cause becomes a campaign when it stops being you and becomes a coalition. This module is how you build one: the 10-80-10 rule for spending your energy where it moves people, the three-zone map that tells you who to recruit, persuade, and ignore, and the coalition seed — the smallest real alliance that can grow into a base.
Campaign Design & Planning~8 min
Passion is not a plan. This module turns an organized coalition into a campaign with a spine: SMART goals that are actually winnable and measurable, the Commitment Ladder that moves people from bystander to leader one rung at a time, the Big Rocks that decide where your limited effort goes, and the one-page plan the whole coalition can run on.
Campaign Architecture~8 min
Some fights are too big for one goal and too long for one plan. This module is design at scale: the escalation ladder that sequences your tactics from lowest-cost to highest-pressure, the multi-front ecosystem that pushes on several pressure points at once, and the decision trees that let a long campaign adapt without losing its shape.
Managing Opposition & Setbacks~8 min
Every real campaign loses rounds. What separates the campaigns that win from the ones that dissolve is how they read a setback and what they do next. This module is the Setback Taxonomy — the five kinds of loss and what each one actually means — plus the pivot-or-persist decision and the work of holding a coalition together through a defeat.
Legislative & Institutional Strategy~8 min
Moving a government body isn't magic — it's a process with known stages and known leverage points, and most of the real influence happens where the public never looks. This module walks the six stages a proposal travels from idea to implementation, shows you where the leverage actually concentrates (committees and staff, not the floor), and how to move an institution from the outside.
Advocacy Inside an Organization~8 min
If you advocate through a nonprofit, there are real legal lines you need to know — not to be timid, but so you can be bold without endangering your organization. This module covers what a 501(c)(3) can and can't do: the difference between unlimited issue advocacy and limited lobbying, the 501(h) election that trades vague limits for clear ones, and the one bright line you never cross.
Data-Informed Advocacy~7 min
'We're doing a lot' is not evidence that anything is working. This module is how to measure a campaign honestly: the crucial difference between activity metrics (how busy you are) and outcome metrics (whether you're winning), the leading indicators that tell you early, and a simple data-collection plan that turns your campaign's own experience into the evidence that moves decision-makers.
Fundraising as Advocacy~7 min
Asking for money is not a separate skill from advocacy — it's the same skill aimed at a different action. This module applies your narrative and audience tools to the ask for support: the Story Map turned toward a donor, the donor archetypes that decide what moves a giver, and the grant narrative that wins institutional funding by telling a fundable story.
The 30-Day Challenge~6 min
Knowledge you don't practice evaporates. This module is a structured month that turns everything you've learned into habit through small daily reps — a weekly-themed protocol with a simple daily log that builds the advocacy muscle the way it's actually built: a little, every day, on a real fight.
Campaign Capstone: How Campaigns Win~9 min
The capstone of the Campaign tier: build a full campaign plan for a fight you care about, informed by how real movements actually won. Three widely-documented campaigns — Montgomery, the farmworkers' grape boycott, and Marshall Ganz's public-narrative method — each teach a strategic lesson you can use, and then you put the whole tier to work on your own fight.
